They were okay!

Hey neat! It’s another Bigger Picture! This week, Dan’s off globetrotting, so Brad and Amy keep it local by talkin’ all about Amy’s TIFF 2017 experience. Plus, Amy took Brad to his first ever Midnight Madness, so they talk about that, too.

It’s the spooky sensation that’s sweeping the nation! The Crew sits down to talk about the recent adaptation of Stephen King’s It.

Baby Driver, The Beguiled, The Big Sick — get it? The crew recaps it’s favourite B-movies, as well as just about every other movie we’ve seen this summer. Also included: a special bonus episode of Rock’s Office, and Amy’s upcoming Tiff-cation.

The crew decides to test how much they really know about one another, at least in regards to ten super-specific topics.

It’s round two of Geek Out! Listen as the crew fails to name enough nursery rhymes, and Brad shows off his Brendan Fraser knowledge.

Amy went to a music festival in the US mostly just to see Carly Rae Jepsen, Brad is really looking forward to seeing Smash Mouth in Burlington, and Dan almost saw Radiohead (but did manage to see Our Lady Peace, also in Burlington, maybe). The crew remembers some of their favourite live music experiences, as well as (naturally) their worst.

Some might like to make a hard distinction between what is “highbrow” and “lowbrow” entertainment, but The Book of Mormon blurs thosr lines. What is “prestige” anyway? And why can’t it be rude?

It’s just such a great show.

In this inaugural game of Geek Out Pop Culture Edition, Amy easily names two children who’ve won oscars, Brad taps into his vast knowledge of graphic novels, and Dan has a clown trapped in his mind.

Miley Cyrus is a government agent, Stanley Kubrick helped fake the moon landing, and the Earth is flat (according to B.O.B.). This week we take a deep dive into some of our favourite conspiracy theories. Or maybe they’re not simply theories at all?!?!

The latest Fast and Furious film delivers pretty well exactly what you’d expect at this point—except Corona. We try and remedy that.

Yeah, it’s been out for over a month, but now that we’ve all seen it, we couldn’t not talk about Get Out. It’s a surprisingly complex social commentary, a taunt thriller, and maybe the most astounding cinematic success story of 2017.

There are several films coming this year that look fantastic, so which ones are we looking most forward to?

The crew takes an episode to honour one of the less appreciated genres of cinema: the documentary. Which ones are great? We’ll tell you.

Colin Geddes was the programmer of TIFF’s Midnight Madness slate for twenty years, but he’s now left the position. As a tiny tribute to the man who’s largely responsible for making the Midnight Madness programme what it is today, we chat about our favourite midnight madness / cult / b-movies. Perhaps inevitably, we end up going on a large tangent about how perfect The Guest is.

So the Oscars are over for another year, and they would have been completely ordinary had not the thing that everyone is talking about happened. Obviously we talk about that, plus other personal highlights from the “meh” Oscars that suddenly wasn’t.

The La La Land bashing continues as we talk about the big silly award show that is the Oscars. We cover our (very informed, we swear) predictions, but also have an enlightening dialog regarding Jeff Bridges’ accent in Hell or High Water, and Viggo Mortensen’s award-nominated penis.

This week, late to the party as usual, we reflect back on our favourite films from 2016. Meanwhile, Amy is certain that Now You See Me will become the next big-and-dumb movie franchise to rival Fast and Furious, and Dan continues his oceanic trend by insisting Mermaids are becoming a thing.

La La Land is a “musical” that we “liked” and couldn’t help but spend an entire episode ranting about.

We (obviously) love good cinema here, but we also love indulging in a more old-school medium: books. This week it’s all about books we enjoy making the trip to the big ol’ silver screen, and how literal that translation should (or should not?) be.

This week, the crew takes a look at death—that cold, dark, inscrutable stranger. Which death scenes have affected us the most? Which ones are the most impressive? Is it healthy for someone to cry from start to finish during The Lion King? All this and more!

The Crew recently went to a midnight screening of the cult classic “Turkish Star Wars”, and we could not not talk about it. For one of us, it’s our favourite film we have seen all year. Find out who!

The Bigger Picture! Today’s episode is all about Toronto on film. More specifically, the cities Toronto stands in for, and the few times it’s been able to shine on its own.

The crew defines what makes a cult classic and pick their favourites! Brad and Amy do the Time Warp again while Dan looks forward with some futuristic sci-fi.

Due to the traumatic experience of watching the Psycho remake, the crew really had no other choice but to keep talking about awful (but also good!) remakes. More impassioned yelling ensued.
